Literature Text

If the person has Social Anxiety, Social Anxiety Disorder, or Panic Disorder, these are the things you shouldn't say to someone having a panic attack.

1. "Calm down"
This is one of the worse things to say to someone having a panic attack. When you tell me "Just calm down", it does nothing and only makes me panic even more.

2. "You're overreacting"
No, I'm not. What might not be a big deal to you is a big deal to me. It's in my head, but I'm in physical pain (ex: Heart racing, shaking, dizziness, etc.)

3. "Just relax"
This is like saying "Calm down". I know you're trying to help, but saying that doesn't do anything.

4. "It's just a comment on the internet"
Now I don't know if this happened to anyone else, but it happened to me once when I needed to talk to someone when I had a very bad panic attack. It actually happened here on DA when I told the person about what someone said on one of my stories on fanfiction. Saying that doesn't help! It only makes me panic even more. You might have no problem with those types of comments, but other people do.
Why I get panic attacks:
Speaking in front of people- This happens at school when I have to present a project.
Criticism- Sometimes it doesn't bother me. Other times I get panic attacks
Being judged- One of my friends on DA actually judged me awhile ago when I made a list of my internet pet peeves.

A few people probably read this, but I really hope I won't have to explain this to people again

If there's anything else I should add please let me know :)

Oh I know another good one...this line gets me every time...

"GET OVER IT!!!"
Um...oh it seems like you have a cold why don't you get over that!

But for real hearing that is so awful to say to someone having a panic attack. :(
